Following the company’s recently achieved milestones of 50 million iPhone game downloads and the release MMA Pro Fighter on Facebook, Digital Chocolate has announced three key promotions to support the company’s global expansion and increased focus on social games.

Ilkka Paananen, the original co-founder and CEO of Sumea that merged with the company in 2004, has been promoted to President of Digital Chocolate. “Ilkka is one of the best minds and top leaders in our industry,” said Trip Hawkins, CEO of Digital Chocolate. “Everyone respects Ilkka and this promotion gives him a more complete global role in leading our business growth.”

Marc Metis, who joined Digital Chocolate in early 2009 after earlier stints at Activision and Atari, has been promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. “The marketing function has been reborn under Marc’s strong and experienced leadership and we are finally able to use marketing to drive growth,” said Hawkins.

In addition, Saurin Shah has been promoted to Vice President and is managing a new and growing social game team under Paananen’s leadership. His team is on the brink of launching the company’s new virtual item platform that will feature NanoStar™ characters that can turn into different virtual items in different social games.

Hawkins added, “I am blessed by these colleagues and by our management team in general and we look forward to building an even stronger global company this year.”
